The 2024 Fall sports season was a season to remember for our Tommies. Winning a Provincial Banner in a season is usually considered a successful season, but what do you call it when your school wins 3 Provincial banners in one season? I would say, an extremely successful sport season!
Congratulations goes out to our Girls Field Hockey, Girls Soccer and Boys Soccer teams for all bringing home their respective Provincial banner this year.
The Girls Field Hockey Team were the first ones to start the winning streak. In the semifinal game against Harbourview High School, Ashley Howe scored in a shootout to advance the team to the finals against KVHS. After regulation time in the Provincial final game, the score was tied 1-1 on a goal scored by Alexis Kingston. The game then went into a shootout, where Rileigh Hicks and Emma Stymiest both scored to seal the deal and bring home the banner for the second year in a row.
The following weekend both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams participated in the Provincial Final 4 tournament in Fredericton. The girls were first up and met Woodstock in the semi-finals. They needed penalty kicks to secure their spot in the final game the following day. Lauryn Swaine, Kailyn McLean, and Sophie Savoie all scored while Lauryn Swaine shut out the Woodstock players. On the boy’s side, JMH needed overtime to move past Hampton 1-0 with a goal from Emmitt Marsh.
On Sunday, in the Provincial finals, the girls faced a strong Clement Cormier team but did not back down for one minute. The game went to OT and then penalty kicks, when JMH sixth shooter, Emily Kingston’s goal, proved to be the winner to bring home the banner. Up next, our boys team faced cross river rivals, MVHS, in the final game of the season. A goal by Richmond Muolee in the first half was all JMH needed as they were able to hold off MVHS for the remainder of the game to be repeat Provincial Champs.
3 Provincial titles in 1 week is a record here at JEH and will be one to remember for many years to come.
