James M. Hill hosted a moving Remembrance Day ceremony for the student body on November 7th, recognizing the contributions of Canadians, and specifically, Miramichiers in the two world wars. A panel of students hosted the event which showcased a series of videos, music, poetry and interviews. Our hosts interviewed Mr. Doug Trevors and Ms. Debb McDonnell, two staff members who travelled to Europe as part of the Anglophone School District North’s trip to
commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Mr. Trevors and Ms. McDonnell gave powerful accounts of their personal connections to their trip, recognizing the sacrifice that their family members made for our country.
Our six hosting students travelled to Ottawa as part of Operation Remembrance: 11 Days of Remembrance, a national project bringing students from 11 schools to deepen students’ understanding of Canada’s military history while emphasizing the importance of honouring our veterans. Clare Sullivan, Kailyn McLean, Raya Laurin, Shaye McIntyre, Erica Doyle and Carly Akoto presented their video and proudly represented James M. Hill. The girls also had the opportunity to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the National War Memorial.
